Be the “light”

It’s been awhile since I have had the energy, time or clarity of thought to write from my heart. During this holiday break, I have been able to take some time for myself and review the past few months to gain some real insight into my emotional situation. It’s lead me to realize how being surrounded by negative energy and passive aggressive actions can really affect us and it can be hard to remove these feelings.

In the past few months, I have watched and felt my attitude slip from hopeful optimist to one of insecurity and anger. It happened so fast and it was hard to let these bad feelings go once I noticed what was happening. Part of my spirit was being taken (squashed) by someone who resents me and whether they knew it or not, they seemed bound and determined to break my confidence and undermine my goals. I felt this tension the moment I met this person but I thought I could be positive and “win” them over. I was hoping it was just a transitional thing. This was a mistake because it gave this person my power and it didn’t hold them accountable for their behavior.

When we spend a lot of time around people who harbour these types of  ill-feelings towards us, it takes its toll, even if we try to let it “slide off” or try to “kill it with kindness”. It’s important to pay attention to our instincts and make plans for how to leave this type of bad relationship. Don’t stay in it. We can’t always change others but we change our path.

However, we may not always be able to move on from a bad situation right away.  While we bide our time, its important to set the intention about the type of people we DO want around us; people that are like-minded and supportive.

When you look out into the world, there are so many people who are guided by negativity, insecurities, and hate.  For those of us trying really hard not to be pulled into that world of darkness, it can be hard. For those that have such negative feelings are reminded of their darkness by being around people of kindness and light, which makes them more aggressive. They want the “light” to go away so their “darkness” isn’t so obvious.

Want an example? Just go to Facebook and read all these posts that put down others for a variety of topics and reasons, especially others that are trying to do good. There is a lot of hate out there.

Surround yourself with kind people who have your best interest at heart. People who love you and are not competing with you. Don’t let others undermine how great you really are!

Be the light in a world of shadows, even if the shadows rebel.

Stay true to yourself.

Be strong.
